Jerry Hall is a hallmark of the disco-glamour era of the ’70s and ’80s — and rightfully so, as one of the era’s key muses and fashion figures. The supermodel, who originally hails from Texas, took the fashion world by storm in the late 1970s on runways including Chanel, Dior and Yves Saint Laurent. In the years since, her dynamic, bohemian style — and legendary romance with Mick Jagger — has made her a key fashion icon of the era, even today. Now 66, Hall re-emerged in the spotlight during her marriage to Rupert Murdoch in 2016, but the relationship ended in 2022.
Hall’s wardrobe prominently featured power-shouldered blazers and sharply draped dresses, ranging in hues from classic neutrals to jewel tones. This being the ’70s and ’80s, however, accessorizing made all the difference — and Hall’s no stranger to a strong accessory, pairing her outfits with tilted hats, layers of pearls and armor-like cuff bracelets.
In March 1977, Hall was seen modeling on a runway in a distinctly ’70s outfit: a chunky sweater with thick ribbed cuffs, layered over knit shorts, a hat and thigh-high knit leggings.
In 1982, Hall attended the United Kingdom’s Royal Ascot in Berkshire, alongside fellow top model Marie Helvin. The duo made a bold pair, with Hall wearing a black double-breasted blazer with piped white lapels. Her accessories included a preppy fascinator with a black net veil, as well as a thick pearl choker, swinging pearl lariat necklace and diamond drop earrings.
In May 1985, a then-pregnant Hall (expecting son James Leroy Jagger) attended a viewing party for action film “A View to a Kill.” During the occasion, she posed with star Grace Jones in a flowing red silk dress, accented — in truly dynamic ’80s style — with a sparkling bejeweled gold cuff bracelet and matching post earrings.
While on a tropical getaway in Mustique with Mick Jagger in 1987, Hall opted for a more minimalist outfit — though it still featured her signature flair. For a stroll with Mick on the beach, the model wore a black minidress with a deep neckline, completed by a tiered skirt with a large illustrated floral print. Her ensemble was simply completed with a leather watch and thick dark hoop earrings.
